Reigning league premiers Canberra last night weapped up their pre-season trial schedule in uninspiring fashion when thrashed 40-14 to Manly.

Raiders coach Tim Sheens said he was disappointed with some aspects of his team's performance, but satisfied overall with Canberra's preparation for the regular season, which kicks off in two weeks. ``To say I was disappointed in the first half would be an understatement. We started well and then fell in a hole,'' Sheens said.

Many weathered an initial Raiders onslaught on the opening 10 minutes and then piled on five tries to nil for a 30-0 halftime lead. Although Canberra scored three times during a 20-minute period in the second half, Manly hit back with two late tries for the final 40-14 scoreline.

The Canberra player at the centre of a contract controversy, Ruben Wiki, scored a try when he was called on as a replacement. The Auckland Warriors say Wiki agreed to play for them during this season.

Manly coach Bob Fulton said he was very happy with his side's final trial game.
