Rep games at tough time

Manly could be affected by representative matches more than any other club - and at probably the most critical time of the season for the Sea Eagles.

Six Manly players have been chosen in tonight's City and Country representative sides: Craig Hancock, Terry Hill, Steve Menzies and Mark Carroll for city and Nik Kosef and David Gillespie for country.

In the next three rounds Manly will play the Sydney Bulldogs, Canberra and Brisbane - all clubs whose players have signed with Super League. The omission of the stars of those sides from representative football will free them up to play for their clubs, which will only make Manly's task more difficult.

Manly will travel to Parramatta Stadium to take on the Bulldogs on Monday night in what promises to be a tough match. The Bulldogs were grand finalists and minor premiers last season, but have been below their best in most matches this year.

Manly has been tearing its way through opposition and on Saturday solidly defeated St George 24-6.

The match was a fiery one, with an all-in brawl just prior to half time seeing a player from each side sin-binned and those remaining receiving a mass caution.

Matthew Ridge, despite playing with an injured hip for much of the match, put in a brave display and became the first player to clock up 100 Winfield Cup points for 1995.
