Out to make his mark

Kangaroo hooker Jim Serdaris is set to end his nomadic days and play out his career at Manly. The skilful rake, who burst on to the scene at Souths as a teenager before wandering to Canterbury then Wests, has slotted straight into life at Brookvale Oval.

Serdaris has moved into a house in Beacon Hill and immediately fell in love with the peninsula. ``I had the chance to move over here four or five years ago and I wish I had,'' he said yesterday. ``I love the area and the whole set-up at Manly. I want to spend the rest of my career here.''

The 24-year-old, who will make his debut in Sunday's Ken Irvine Challenge against Norths at Brookvale Oval, is desperate to return to action after a long recovery from a double hernia operation. He also wants to bury the memories of a 1995 season that went horribly wrong. After playing for NSW and Australia, Serdaris broke his thumb and then found himself out of favor at Wests. He found himself in the backrow with the Magpies last season, but has made it clear that he wants Des Hasler's No 9 jersey at Manly.

``I haven't really talked to Bob (Fulton) about it, but hooker is my best position and that's where I want to play,'' he said. ``If I'm good enough I want to get my Australian spot back this year.''
